In-and-Out Game Night ⚀ ⚁ ⚂ ⚃ ⚄ ⚅

What is 'In-and-Out Game Night?'

In-and-Out Game Night is a monthly community space where neighbors and friends come together to play board games with incarcerated community members and loved ones. Some of us are on the inside of the prison walls, and some of us are on the outside of the prison walls. We gather to share joy, build community, and resist isolation together.

Once a month we gather and have phone calls with multiple friends who are incarcerated. While we're together we chat, play games, and tell stories.

Games to play over the phone

Phone calls present their own challenges for playing games. Not every game can be played easily over the phone, but we've found that lots of games can be adapted without much difficulty.

Below are some of our favorite games for playing over the phone. We have found that most word games translate over the phone very easily. Some card games are easy to adapt (especially if folks on the inside have their own deck of cards handy). Dice are usually banned in prisons, but cards can be used in their place.

A note on phone calls

Phone calls are free in the state of Massachusetts. In most other states, the price for a phone call can be several dollars for just a 20 minute phone call.
